WASHINGTON S. BARNES, youngest son of James and Sally Barnes, was born June 25, 1848, upon the homestead farm in Mercer township. He was reared a farmer, and has always followed that vocation. In April, 1879, he purchased his present farm in Mercer township, upon which he has since resided.
He was married December 3, 1878, to Mary J. Black, a daughter of R. S. Black, of Marion township, and their children are as follows: Hattie S.; Samuel H.; Frank M., and Fannie M. In politics, Mr. Barnes is a Democrat, has filled the office of poor director for a number of years,
and has always taken a leading interest in public affairs. He is a member of Harmony United Presbyterian church, and a liberal contributor towards that society.
